Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi ascended a specially constructed dais in a golf cart at a simple function to mark the launch of the Chennai edition of the Times of India. He said the paper’s name has pleased his ears for a long time as it denotes nationhood. After at least two earlier efforts to set a launch date, the TOI finally made it to the Hindu’s stronghold. IANS
