Last week Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said his government would not allow local cable channels to resume broadcasting news. “We are not going to allow local channels to broadcast news, not in the immediate future,” When asked about minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din’s reported remarks that he would resign if the channels are not allowed to broadcast news, Omar said: “I don’t want to lose a capable minister for a few channels. I will talk to the minister on the issue. I have no intention of changing my decision."
