On Friday in Kolkata the West Bengal government banned movement of journalists inside Nabanna, the secretariat with a policeman threatening them with "serious consequences" if they moved beyond the press corner. A circular issued on January 15 had said that only a reporter having a prior appointment with a minister or any officer would be allowed to move in areas beyond the press corner, otherwise it would be a violation of the "Standard Operating Procedure". This time one of government’s ministers quickly denied that there was such warning by the government. But given that the CM is the information and cultural affairs minister, what should we believe?
