New Marathi daily

A new Marathi daily, Mi Marathi LIVE, was launched last night amid much fanfare in Mumbai. Its owners are the same as those of the TV news channel, Mi Marathi. Given the traditional reluctance of newspapers to carry advertisements announcing new rivals, it had adopted a strategy -- a four-page broadsheet, masthead and all, were distributed by asking vendors to insert it as a flyer in all Marathi newspapers. More expensive, but each subscriber of any Marathi daily got it. Nikhil Wagle, Kumar Ketkar, and Bharatkumar Raut, formerly Maharashtra Times editor and Shiv Sena MP, are consultants who will also be writing columns.
