Paying publishers to use Facebook Live

The Columbia Journalism Review reports that over the last 12 months Facebook has been paying select media partners to  use Facebook Live, in an effort to promote this live streaming platform. It says the New York Times is among 140 media companies and celebrities whom the social media giant enticed to create content for Facebook Live, through deals worth $50 million. Both NYT and BuzzFeed were paid $3 million plus each. WSJ reported this last year.
