When foreign ministers of  SAARC nations addressed journalists in Columbo, Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi  was a big hit.  A People’s Party politician,  he told a convention of the South Asia Free Media Association that  fighting for 8 years for the revival of democracy in  his country had taught him the value of a free press and bodies like SAFMA, which had stood by opposition politicians when the country was under emergency. He said he  had urged the Indian foreign minister to prioritise easing visas restrictions  for journalists.
