The Hindu carried a fairly damning piece on Rahul Gandhi’s method of functioning on May 18, on its editorial page. If such assessments had been offered earlier it might have jolted the Congress and the Gandhi family into facing up to his performance deficit. But until this rout, reporting on him in the Hindu and elsewhere has been of the kid gloves kind.
