Sakal plays safe

Guessing who among Narayan Rane of Congress, Trupti Sawant of Shiv Sena, and Siraj Khan of AIMIM would win the Bandra East Assembly seat is difficult, and Sakal newspaper said so in its April 14 edition and printed stories with these headlines (roughly translated from Marathi), all on one single page: 'Reduced turnout may help Sawant', 'Rane too likely winner', and 'MIM victory difficult but not unlikely'. A box points also points to low voter turnout worries in Congress and Sena. The newspaper conceded it was 'contradictory' but an outcome of its survey and analysis. A reader could well say, 'avoidable confusion' in his mind.
