Commuters in Chennai were stranded on August 24, when over 1,000 buses of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation staying off the roads. Their staff, affiliated to the ruling DMK’s Labour Progressive Front, stayed away to participate in a rally demanding wage revision. The TOI, New Indian Express and Deccan Chronicle mentioned that it was a ruling party affiliated union which caused the disruption. The Hindu did not.
