When it comes to Twitter, no one does it better than external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. As tension between India and Pakistan was mounting last week, a group of 20 Pakistani girl students on a friendship trip to India was apprehensive about returning home safely. The leader of the group, Aliya Harir, reached out to Swaraj, and tweeted that the minister had assured them of their safe return. On Monday Swaraj tweeted in reply: “Aliya - I was concerned about your well being kyonki betiyan to sabki sanjhi hoti hain (because daughters are everyone’s.)” Needless to say, social media loved her words, and the fact that she hadn’t let the heated rhetoric between the two countries come in the way of her empathy for a bunch of girl students from Pakistan. The girls are now back home, and on Tuesday, Harir tweeted her thanks to Swaraj. If only the issues between India and Pakistan could be resolved as simply and graciously.
