Tribune apologises to controversial leader

IN Media Watch Briefs | 31/10/2017

The fact that the Chandigarh Tribune has carried what is being described as an abject apology to controversial senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in its Oct 29 Sunday edition, has lead to disquiet in the paper, including employee union protests. The apology has apparently been forced upon the paper's editor by the Trust which owns the paper. This is for stories carried in 2014 and 2015 linking Majithia to the drug trade.  The Tribune has apparently given a clean chit to a politician against whom some 40 of the Congress party's MLAs have been demanding action.
