CNN IBN's elusive investigator

IN Media Watch Briefs | 14/10/2015

On October 13 CNN IBN came up with its second  exclusive on Pakistan in less than a fortnight. But who is the mysterious reporter producing these? One Manoj Gupta whom you never see on screen. He provided the input for the 'Living Hell in PoK' story dated September 30 and is also supposed to be the investigative reporter who produced the Osama story described by the channel as "The decade's biggest world exclusive". The clinching evidence apparently came from a former Pakistan defence minister who finally chose to go on record with his statement. Why would he do that?  Anchor Zaka Jacob said it was because Manoj Gupta had been pursuing him for 2 years! Will the channel produce this gent?

The new term for self censorship is voluntary censorship, as proposed by companies like Netflix and Hotstar. ET reports that streaming video service Amazon Prime is opposing a move by its peers to adopt a voluntary censorship code in anticipation of the Indian government coming up with its own rules. Amazon is resisting because it fears that it may alienate paying subscribers.

Clearly, the run to the 2019 elections is on. A journalist received a call from someone saying they were from Aajtak channel and were conducting a survey, asking whom she was going to vote for in 2019. On being told that her vote was secret, the caller assumed she wasn't going to vote for 'Modiji'. The caller, a woman, also didn't identify herself. A month or two earlier the same journalist received a call, this time from a man, asking if she was going to vote for the BSP.
