Without giving any official reason, as many as 24 FM partner stations of BBC in Pakistan have been ordered by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority to cease broadcasting BBC Urdu service news bulletins. PEMRA says it was acting on orders from the government. BBC World Service has expressed concern at this stifling of media freedom. Correspondents feel that the political sensitivities surrounding the BBC's broadcasts in Urdu may have prompted this move. (IANS, BBC)
