Tunku Varadarajan’s column on Anshu Jain, the former co-CEO of Deutsche Bank, was eyebrow-raising enough when it appeared in the Indian Express two weeks ago. It told old-school-buddy tales and said he was a remarkably good banker who had resigned for the sake of the bank. (No mention of the massive fines and litigation costs the bank had paid under his co-watch.) The column said India could use him, as finance minister among other things, except for the small matter of his citizenship. The piece seems even more incredible now that Mr Jain is making news again.
