Registering cases all round

IN Media Watch Briefs | 25/01/2011
This happened last week in  a small trading town, Tadepalligudem, in West Godavari district, AP. The police registered a criminal case against local journos  for allegedly obstructing officials of the Income Tax Department in discharging their duties. The officials complained to the police that the scribes had obstructed their work when they went to the town to conduct raids on onion traders. The journos retaliated by complaining to the cops that they were in fact assaulted by the onion traders when they tried to cover the raid by the Income Tax officials. The police registered a case of assault on scribes by the onion traders, too.

ET reports that streaming video service Amazon Prime is opposing a move by its peers to adopt a voluntary censorship code in anticipation of the Indian government coming up with its own rules. Amazon is resisting because it fears that it may alienate paying subscribers.

Clearly, the run to the 2019 elections is on. A journalist received a call from someone saying they were from Aajtak channel and were conducting a survey, asking whom she was going to vote for in 2019. On being told that her vote was secret, the caller assumed she wasn't going to vote for 'Modiji'. The caller, a woman, also didn't identify herself. A month or two earlier the same journalist received a call, this time from a man, asking if she was going to vote for the BSP.
