Threats through ads

IN Media Watch Briefs | 11/08/2010

The  Tamil Nadu Illathu Pillaimar State Association put in ads in Tamil newspapers warning the Tamil magazine Junior Vikatan that a massive agitation would be held in front of its office in Chennai if it failed to apologise for carrying a ‘news’ story in its column titled Mister Kazhugu (Mr Eagle). The story was about the Man Friday of a prominent leader in Madurai being beaten up in Chennai.  Dinamalar carried the ad, some other papers declined to.  (Express Buzz)

Clearly, the run to the 2019 elections is on. A journalist received a call from someone saying they were from Aajtak channel and were conducting a survey, asking whom she was going to vote for in 2019. On being told that her vote was secret, the caller assumed she wasn't going to vote for 'Modiji'. The caller, a woman, also didn't identify herself. A month or two earlier the same journalist received a call, this time from a man, asking if she was going to vote for the BSP.
