Kid gloves for the Gandhis
Letter to the Hoot: The Indian media may write exposing many scams, but it seems to leave Rahul and Sonia Gandhi alone.
It is evident that the two have become the media’s darlings, writes T N VAIDYANATHAPURA
Mr Rahul Gandhi and Mrs Sonia Gandhi appear to be the darlings of the media. They can lose elections and their proteges can be hauled up by CAG and CBI and yet the media dare not question them. Mrs Gandhi gave a brief TV bite soon after the Bihar election results and after congratulating Mr Nitish Kumar she said that her party was the only one to take action against its members who were under a cloud. She was implicating Mr Natwar Singh, Mr Ashok Chavan, Mr Kalmadi and Mr Raja. She also lambasted the BJP for shielding Mr Yeddyurappa. Why has the media failed to take her to task and question the innumerable scams that are surfacing under Congress rule?
Commenting on the 2G scam Mrs Gandhi lambasted the opposition for sullying the Prime Minister's name adding that he was a person of highest integrity. Why do the media not question her about the authority above Mr Raja who is involved in the scam? These instances make me think that Mrs Gandhi is handled with kid gloves.
Mr Rahul Gandhi failed miserably in Bihar assembly election and the media was busy defending the indefensible. Why did the media not get a sound bite from the man himself? And why do the media portray him, time and again, as the only person who could become the country’s prime minister?
We see the Presidents of almost all the parties being questioned by the media except one President and one General Secretary.
