It certainly helps to sponsor an event. Quickly scan the profiles of the speakers attending the 2015 Jaipur Literary Festival and whether you are a V.S. Naipual, Paul Theroux or a Sarah Waters, they border on factual and inevitably downplay the author's stature. But the wordy profile of Subhash Chandra, chairperson of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Private Ltd., the main promoter of the festival, is an euphoric ode to the media man, straight from the company's PR office.

The new term for self censorship is voluntary censorship, as proposed by companies like Netflix and Hotstar. ET reports that streaming video service Amazon Prime is opposing a move by its peers to adopt a voluntary censorship code in anticipation of the Indian government coming up with its own rules. Amazon is resisting because it fears that it may alienate paying subscribers.

A month or two earlier the same journalist received a call, this time from a man, asking if she was going to vote for the BSP.
